State police out in full force for holiday weekend

State police will be working hard this holiday weekend to keep the roads safe.

Police will be conducting seatbelt checks and checking to make sure all children are in proper child restraint seats. Police will also be looking out for drivers who are talking on cell phones without a hands-free device.

With a lot of people also heading to end of the season barbecues, police will be working hard to curb drinking and driving. New York State Police Sgt. Gil Martinez says unfortunately with the high volume of traffic there's a higher potential for alcohol related accidents.

Many residents say they are happy to see police making an extra effort to keep everyone safe for the holiday.
