Police say man shot in New Rochelle after dice game went bad

(08/30/03) NEW ROCHELLE - Police are looking for two people they say shot someone in broad daylight Saturday morning. The victim is alive and recovering at a local hospital, but the attackers are still on the loose.

The assailants shot the male victim twice outside the Hartley Housing Complex near the dead end of Winthrop Avenue by Dewitt Place. Cops said the victim, in his late 20s, left the Hartley Housing Complex at 7:30 Saturday morning. He fled westbound on Winthrop Avenue after a game of dice allegedly went bad.

The victim ended up getting into his car and drove himself to Sound Shore Hospital's emergency room. He is recovering from two gun shot wounds, one to his abdomen and another to his back.

New Rochelle police are looking for two suspects involved in Saturday morning's shooting. Currently, police say they have not established a motive. They speculate that either the victim or one of the suspects is a resident of the Hartley Housing Complex.

Folks with any information about this incident are asked to call the New Rochelle Police Department at (914) 654-2270 or Crime Stoppers at (1-800) 898-TIPS.
