Local runners take part in second annual 5K Labor Day run in Dobbs Ferry

(08/31/03) DOBBS FERRY - The second annual 5K Labor Day run took place in Dobbs Ferry on Sunday. Local families and friends cheered on the champions. Runners of all levels and age groups started out at Mercy College to enjoy a little exercise and fun. The finish line was at Main Street.

Because the race was so short, organizers say the streets that were blocked off due to the race did not cause much traffic.

Christy Leggiero won first place for women. It was the first time she ran in this race or any such race. The slowest runner only needed about 35 minutes to reach the finish line.

Local businesses provided prizes for all participants. The race also supported Mercy College. Each person walked away with either a goody bag or a prize, so there were no losers.
