Rain washes out fun at Rye Playland

The soggy weather forced officials to close Rye Playland for the day.

One woman and her family looking to have some fun Monday, drove to Playland from Manhattan only to find the gates locked. They were left with trying to decide where to take the kids instead.

The wet summer weather has hurt business at Rye Playland. Peter Tartaglia, Playland marketing director, says the weather caused the park to lose an estimated $1 million in revenue this year. He says the park has been forced to close a lot this season.

The beach at Rye Playland was also empty. Lifeguards were on duty, but ended up spending the day putting away their own posts and getting ready to say goodbye to summer.

Rye Playland remains open on weekends only through September.
