Some Yonkers residents are trapped inside as fallen tree blocks roadway

Hurricane Isabel is still causing problems for residents of Chatham Terrace in Yonkers. Wind gusts knocked down trees and power lines, and the dead end road is completely impassable. Besides being unable to leave their block, residents are also without power.

The problem started when a giant tree fell on top of a Toyota sedan, completely crushing the car. Residents say people were inside the car at the time and were narrowly able to escape unscathed. As the tree was falling, it took out power lines, which are lying across Chatham Terrace.

Yonkers Department of Public Works is aware of the situation, but officials say they cannot do anything until Con Ed makes sure the downed wires are not live.
