Wake held in Briarcliff Manor for beloved public servant

With the flag in front of Briarcliff Manor Village Hall flying at half-staff, dozens of community members paid respect for a beloved public servant who died last weekend. Henry "Hank" Kaufmann, who served the village as a policeman, firefighter and politician, died from a torn aorta at age 62.

Kaufmann had a longstanding reputation as a community leader. He began his career as a village patrolman and moved up the ranks to detective sergeant. Kaufmann also served as fire chief and Briarcliff's deputy mayor.

Friends say Kaufmann will best be remembered as a devoted firefighter who had a passion for his job. They say he was very active and involved and he respected everyone he came across.Funeral services for Kaufmann will be held Wednesday morning at St Theresa's church on Pleasantville Road.
