Police obtain identity of man believed to have hit Ossining girl

Police now know the identity of the man they believe was involved in a hit-and-run.

Police credit the public with helping them learn the identity of the driver who allegedly struck 14-year-old Maria Menchala on her way to school Monday and then drove away. Police say they got a break in the case on Tuesday when they were able to locate the pickup truck that hit Menchala. Now, police have identified the driver of the truck as 27-year-old Ossining resident Efen Aucay.

Police are canvassing the Ossining area and sending photos to neighboring police departments to help locate Aucay. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police.

Menchala could be released from the Westchester Medical Center as early as Friday.
