Veterans angry over proposed changes at the VA hospital in Montrose

Veterans met with Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) about a new plan proposed for the VA hospital.

Under the CARES plan, the Department of Veteran Affairs wants in-patient care moved from the Montrose VA hospital to Castle Point in Dutchess County. That means there would only be out-patient care available to those veterans who live near the Montrose hospital.

So, veterans sat down with Senator Schumer to express their disapproval with the plan. They say they are upset partly because the VA made changes to their original plan. Schumer agreed the revised plan is flawed and says he will push the VA to look at the issues raised by the veterans.

The VA has scheduled a hearing on the proposed changes for October 21. A final decision about the CARES plan is expected by the end of December.
