State shuts down popular New Rochelle bar for serving minors

The New York State Liquor Authority says Ketch 22 North in New Rochelle is one of the worst offenders when it comes to serving alcohol to minors. Police agree, and they say officers are often called to the bar to deal with everything from assault and noise to complaints of underage drinking.

Now, the state has ruled that Ketch 22, which is located near Iona College, cannot dispense liquor for the next two years. The bar owner denies serving minors, and says investigators have even been inside her establishment and given her passing grades. Iona students say Ketch 22 North was one of the easiest places to get served as a minor. They are not worried, however, saying there are other places in the city to get alcohol. Police, however, say they will be cracking down on other establishments as well.Earlier this year, the Palladium night club was closed down with similar violations. Since that ruling, the city had put a moratorium on any other night clubs opening in New Rochelle.
