Assemblyman Spano drops out of the race for Yonkers mayor

Assemblyman Mike Spano (R-Yonkers) announced Wednesday that he's dropping out of the race for Yonkers mayor.

Joined by State GOP leader Sandy Treadwell, Spano said he is now throwing his support behind his Republican rival Phil Amicone. Spano made his announcement at Amicone's campaign headquarters and said that he was both sad and happy.

Spano lost the Republican primary in a bitter battle last month but had vowed to stay in the race on the Conservative and Independence party lines. He said it is time for both himself and Amicone to lay down their swords and work together.
