More than 100 local soldiers prepare to leave for Iraq

(10/04/03) CORTLANDT MANOR - On Saturday evening, friends and family said their goodbyes to the soldiers at Camp Smith in Cortlandt Manor.

The more than 100 local soldiers being activated for "Operation Iraqi Freedom" are from the 108th Infantry, part of the Army National Guard.

The tour of duty could last up to 18 months. The soldiers will undergo several months of training at Fort Drum upstate and at Fort Bragg in North Carolina before they are deployed to Iraq.
