Shooting suspect arrested as part of Mount Vernon's crackdown on violence

A call to Crimestoppers leads to the arrest of a man wanted for a shooting last week.

Vashawn Valentine, 21, was arrested after police received a tip. Police say Valentine was wanted in connection with a shooting that happened near 4th Avenue and 4th Street, an area that police have been trying to clean up.

Police say the area of 4th Avenue and 4th Street has been the scene of a number of random shootings and drug deals. Thanks to the tip, police say residents are helping rid the streets of crime.
