Fourth annual Columbus Day Parade held in Sleepy Hollow
(10/11/03) SLEEPY HOLLOW - Thousands were in attendance for the village's fourth annual parade and street fair celebrating Columbus Day. The festivities kicked off at noon on Saturday at the top of Beekman Avenue and Broadway. People of all ages and backgrounds came out to take part. Elected leaders, such as Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Harrison), were also on hand making their rounds and greeting their constituents.
In addition to the parade, the street fair was a hit with shoppers and those looking for a bite to eat. The village firefighters were cooking up more than 20 feet of ribs.
This Columbus Day Parade was especially meaningful for U.S. Marine David Herrera. He is back home with family and friends after spending the last 10 months stationed in Kuwait.
The Mayor of Sleepy Hollow, Philip Zegarelli, said this day was not only a patriotic one, but it was also a day to celebrate everyone's heritage.
