Storm rips through Westchester knocking out power and tearing down trees

Many communities are cleaning up after a strong storm tore through the county Tuesday night.

Thousands across Westchester lost power after wild winds and rain ripped through the area. And for one family in Yonkers, money spent renovating their house went out the window when a tree came toppling into their home.

The Moffits say they have been concerned about the tree for some time and even requested that the city remove it. But workers who examined the tree a few weeks ago said it looked fine. It turns out the tree was rotted from the inside and with the strong winds it finally came toppling down.

Although the Moffits will have to redo most of the renovations they just completed, they say the one good thing is now they have plenty of firewood for the winter.
