A train struck and killed a person Wednesday in the Town of Mount Pleasant. It happened shortly before 5 p.m. right at the start of rush hour. The accident occurred between the Hawthorne and Pleasantville train stations off of Franklin Avenue.

Metro North Police, paramedics and the medical examiner were at the scene investigating to find out exactly what happened. A spokesperson for Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the train was coming from Brewster, when a person apparently jumped in front.

Metro North police have not released the name of the person who was killed. Train service was restored to normal just after 6:30 p.m.
