Fast-thinking boater rescues Tappan Zee Bridge jumper

A dramatic rescue took place at the Tappan Zee Bridge Saturday morning, when a distraught woman stopped her car on the bridge and jumped over the side. The woman was saved by a fast-thinking boater who was in the right place at the right time.Police and fire units rushed to the bridge at about 11:00 a.m. after a report that someone was about to jump. Traffic was blocked on the Westchester side of the Hudson as emergency response teams gathered on the bridge and the water. Witnesses say the woman on the bridge quickly got out of her car and jumped over the rail.Mike Salamin, who works for Tow Boat USA, responded to the emergency call and retrieved the woman from the water after she jumped. Salamin and his crew performed CPR on the woman, and then brought her to the Tarrytown Marina. She was rushed to Westchester Medical Center, where she is currently undergoing treatment. She is listed in critical condition.
