Pit bull puppy found near death on a Yonkers rooftop

A 7-month-old puppy is recovering after being found with dozens of bite marks all over its body.

The dog was found in a box Friday on the roof of a building in the Schoeder Street Housing Complex. Police took the animal to Fleetwood Animal Hospital in Mount Vernon where Dr. Laura Robbins helped save the dog's life.

Dr. Robbins says she believes the dog was used as bait in an illegal fight. She says a number of animals have been coming in on a weekly basis malnourished and with wounds.

Last winter, police say they made a big dent in the dog-fighting problem in Yonkers when they arrested three men, who are now facing charges. Yonkers police say they are investigating this current incident, but are not sure if the animal was in fact involved in a dogfight.

Meanwhile, Dr. Robbins is pleading for the abuse to come to a stop.
