Yorktown bus drivers protest firing of colleague

A Yorktown school bus driver was recently fired and now other drivers are taking action. The bus drivers rallied Wednesday at Yorktown High School on Crompond Road and Springhurst Street to protest the firing. Officials say the school district issued the dismissal of a bus driver after a 9-year-old student claimed the driver had been nodding off at the wheel while the bus was stopped. Both the Transport Workers Union Local 100 and the bus company objected to the firing. They claim school district officials denied the driver due process. They say the driver was dismissed solely on the unverified word of the child and not given the chance to defend himself.
