Race for county legislator in the 4th District is a mirror image of two years ago

The race for legislator in the 4th Legislative District has two familiar faces squaring off once again.

County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz (D-White Plains) and Republican candidate Dennis Fang are once again battling for the 4th Legislative District seat. In this year's battle, the two have expressed their differing views on Indian Point.

Kaplowitz is just one of several county legislators who are pressuring federal regulators to explain why the Indian Point evacuation plan was re-certified earlier this year. He is in favor of closing Indian Point and has been promoting a gas fired power plant on the site as a better alternative to nuclear.

But Fang, who is also concerned about Indian Point, believes closing the plants cannot be done until a more practical alternative is found.

Another issue at hand in this race is taxes. Fang feels Kaplowitz has to take some responsibility for increases in county taxes. But Kaplowitz contends it's a one-time spike in taxes, which does not accurately reflect his record.
