One person hit, killed by train on tracks between Mt. Kisco and Chappaqua

(10/27/03) MOUNT KISCO - A person was hit and killed by a speeding train just south of the Mount Kisco train station in Kirby Plaza on Monday night. Metro North police were at the scene since shortly after 6:00, trying to figure out why that person was on the tracks.

The person was actually struck on the tracks between the Mount Kisco station and the Chappaqua station, so commuters experienced heavy delays in both directions during the Monday evening rush hour. The delays were especially long for those who took the Harlem Line out of Manhattan. Metro North workers used only one track to get trains through the area where the person was hit. Folks on trains heading south experienced more extensive delays than those heading north, with waits anywhere from one to two hours.

Train service slowly improved throughout the evening, and it should be back to normal for the Tuesday morning commute. Metro North police have not identified the person struck by the train. Their investigation is ongoing.
