Governor Pataki endorses Phil Amicone to be next Yonkers mayor

Governor Pataki has endorsed fellow republican Phil Amicone to be the next Yonkers mayor. The three-term Republican governor says Amicone's experience counts.

Amicone, who is currently the deputy mayor of Yonkers, is hoping to capitalize on the political clout Governor Pataki brings. The move comes as no surprise to Democrat mayoral candidate Joe Farmer. The Farmer campaign says if the governor isn't bringing Yonkers more state money, an endorsement simply doesn't matter.

Leadership, experience and vision are all characteristics Pataki used to describe Amicone. Amicone hopes his campaign will get a boost from Yonkers voters who have overwhelmingly supported Pataki in the past.

Joe Farmer doubts voters will agree, saying Pataki continues to short-change Yonkers schools. Farmer also points out Yonkers has twice as many registered Democrats as Republicans.

News 12 Westchester will be hosting a debate with the candidates in the race for Yonkers mayor Thursday night at 7:30.Amicone and Farmer will be live in News 12's studios to answer questions from a panel of journalists and from the public.
