Peekskill Republicans celebrate victories

Peekskill Republicans were celebrating Tuesday night and they claimed victory in the Peekskill mayoral contest and two seats on the Common Council.Mayor John Testa (R) said that if the third seat on the council went to Democratic candidate Don Bennett, he would welcome him with open arms. He said they could then move forward together for a better Peekskill.Democrats were reluctant to concede defeat in the mayoral race even though it was clear Mike Kane would not defeat Testa. They waited for one final district to report since Bennett was leading Republican Chris Hanslick. When the final district came in, Bennett was ahead by 27 votes. If the numbers remain the same, the Democrats would pick up one seat on the Peekskill Common Council.
