Car registered in New Rochelle may be a clue in Marlyand murder mystery

(11/08/03) NEW ROCHELLE - Police in New Rochelle are involved in a bizarre murder investigation that began on Thursday in Maryland. Two bodies were found in the trunk of a car, a sedan registered to a New Rochelle woman.

Barbara Hayes is the owner of the car. News 12 Westchester tried to contact Hayes at her Horton Avenue home, but no one answered. New Rochelle police will not comment on the investigation.

Maryland state troopers pulled Hayes' car over for speeding along I-95 in Maryland on Thursday. Troopers asked the two people driving the car, James Moore and Porsha Harper, to open the trunk and made the discovery of the two bodies. So far, the victims have not been identified.

Moore and Harper have been charged with murder and are in a Maryland jail, held without bond. Investigators will not comment on their relationship to Barbara Hayes, the owner of the car. Authorities also say they have not yet found a motive in the killings.
