Crews across the county work to clean up after fierce winds tear through area
Strong winds ripped through the county taking down power lines and trees, leaving many without power.
In Irvington late Thursday night, the superintendent of the highway department surveyed the area and noticed a 40 to 50 foot pine tree leaning over on some wires along Route 9. That forced crews on Friday to battle the winds once again and go to work on trying to remove the tree. The downed tree also forced crews to close a portion of Route 9 between Sunnyside Lane and Meadowbrook Road for a number of hours.
Meanwhile Con Edison says crews are working to get electricity restored to about 1,000 customers.
