Traditional Thanksgiving Day Parade held in New Rochelle
(11/22/03) NEW ROCHELLE - More than 10,000 people lined the streets of New Rochelle on Saturday to start off the holiday season with the city's traditional Thanksgiving Day Parade. It has taken place around Thanksgiving for the past 50 years. This year's parade started at New Rochelle High School on North Avenue and proceeded down Main Street.
Yankees relief pitcher Mariano Rivera made a special appearance. The baseball player used to live in New Rochelle.
Another special guest in the parade was Andy Pelham. He is a New Rochelle firefighter who started an international motorcycle group called the Red Knights.
New Rochelle's finest, Girl Scout troops and marching bands also graced the parade route. Towards the end, Santa Claus rode his sleigh down Main Street to kick off the Christmas season.
