Conjoined Filipino twins undergo second round of surgery in the Bronx
The conjoined twins, who have been staying at a Westchester hospital, underwent surgery again Monday.
Carl and Clarence Aguirre, the 18-month-old twins who are joined at the top of their heads, were back at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx to undergo another procedure. Since the twins share the blood supply around their brains, surgeons began cutting and dividing theblood vessels during the five-and-a-half hour operation. The boys' brains were also gently pushed apart during the procedure.
The twins' first surgery was back on October 20. They are expected to undergo at least one or two more surgeries before doctors can begin the separation procedure.
