Fire that destroyed a home in Bedford Saturday flares up again on Sunday
(11/30/03) BEDFORD - A fast-moving fire that destroyed a home in Bedford Saturday evening flared up again on Sunday. The house was located at 180 Stonehill Road near Millertown Road, close to the border of Pound Ridge.
When a portion of the house flared up again, a quick call to the Bedford fire department brought an overwhelming response. Huge tanker trucks, some holding 3,000 gallons of water, came to the scene because the bulk of the fire district does not have fire hydrants.
The initial flames on Saturday engulfed the house, making it difficult for firefighters to bring them under control. A great deal of water was needed to tackle the original fire. Nearly 80 firefighters from the Bedford Fire Department along with engines from surrounding communities battled the flames for close to two hours.
No one was home at the time of the fire on Saturday, but Bedford police say the homeowners have been located and notified about the blaze. Fire officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
