White Plains man gets 18 years for beating girlfriend to death with a dumbbell

A White Plains man will spend the next 18 years in prison for beating his girlfriend to death.

Eric Kemp, 36, pleaded to guilty to killing Monica Molina in their basement apartment on Waldo Avenue last June. Molina had just moved out of the apartment but when she went back to get some of her things, Kemp beat her to death with a 30 pound dumbbell.

Molina's body was found two days after Kemp walked into a New Jersey police station and told officers he had hurt his girlfriend.

He could have been given life in prison if his case had gone to trial.
