Possible layoffs at Westchester Medical Center

As the holiday season approaches, many of those who work at Westchester Medical Center face the prospects of losing their job. Employees of the medical center were told Thursday, that they could expect a number of layoffs due to recent budget problems.

According to a spokesperson for the medical center, there is a need to reduce millions of dollars in salaries and benefits in order to fill the medical center's $35 million deficit. There could be as many as 200 people facing unemployment. Officials have informed employees they will receive 30 days notice prior to termination.

Both Westchester Medical Center nurses along with relatives of patients have expressed concern over how this may affect patient care.
