Cars, school buses stuck for hours on Executive Blvd. in Yonkers

The first major snowstorm of the season turned Executive Boulevard in Yonkers into a virtual parking lot. Cars, ambulances and school buses were stuck on the main thoroughfare, which was nearly impassable because of its hills.

Some school children were stuck on their buses for six hours as motorists tried to navigate the roadway as the snow fell. Many parents also showed up along Executive Boulevard to try to find and rescue their kids.

All of the students have been dropped off, but not after a long, arduous journey. Yonkers school officials blame the problems on the timing of the storm. They say the snow began to fall at its heaviest at the exact time when school was being let out.
