Police in White Plains investigate possible abduction attempt

Police in White Plains are investigating the possible abduction attempt of a 10-year-old girl near Clinton Street and North Broadway.

According to investigators, a man with a map in a white minivan asked the girl for directions. Authorities say the girl screamed and ran to two nearby Verizon workers who then called police and tried to follow the van. They say the driver pulled away from the scene too fast, so they stayed with the girl.

The White Plains Police Department is not clear if the driver?s request was innocent or if it was an attempted abduction. Police are investigating if the incident is connected to a series of attempted abductions that occurred in the area a few months ago.
