Suspicious vehicle causes part of Route 22 to be temporarily closed in Scarsdale

FBI agents, police officers and firefighters closed down part of Route 22 in Scarsdale Wednesday after a suspicious vehicle was stopped.

A Yonkers police detective who specializes in terrorism spotted the SUV near the Kensico Reservoir around 10 a.m. Police say the driver was wearing a bulletproof vest and a SWAT team helmet. Authorities took major precautions as they checked out the vehicle. Several houses were evacuated and the Westchester County bomb squad was called in.

Authorities say the car had a backpack with wires, batteries, a circuit board and a camera was mounted on the dashboard. Investigators also found a container with liquid chemicals. Route 22 was reopened as police took the driver into custody after restraining him with a stun gun. Police say the man was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
