Westchester County Clerk Spano will not seek re-election

Westchester County Clerk Leonard Spano announced Thursday than he will not be running for re-election this November.

Spano, who has served three terms as county clerk, says he is stepping out of public life. The Republican also served on the County Board of Legislators for 22 years prior to becoming county clerk. Spano says he is grateful to the people for having the confidence in him to re-elect him year after year.

New Rochelle Mayor Tim Idoni and Mount Vernon City Clerk Lisa Copeland are said to be trying to get the Democratic nomination for the position. Spano would not comment on who should be the Republican candidate.
