Yonkers Republicans stand by GOP chairman during political turmoil
The Yonkers Republican City Committee announced Saturday that they are standing by the city GOP chairman during the recent political turmoil.
Zehy Jereis, who also works as an executive assistant for state Senator Nick Spano (R-Yonkers), was under pressure to resign amid allegations from a reputed mobster. FBI documents and sworn testimony from accused mobster Mo Sanginiti claims Jereis was paid $10,000 for information on investigations conducted by the Westchester District Attorney?s office. The testimony also mentioned information could be obtained by Al Pirro, husband of the district attorney. Both Jereis and Pirro deny the allegations.
Yonkers Executive Republican Committee member Richard Hoffman says the charges are politically motivated and designed to make Jereis a lame duck. Chairwoman of the Westchester GOP Rosemarie Panio says she is not calling for Jereis? resignation, but does have concerns that the allegations surrounding him will distract from the upcoming elections.
