Yonkers elementary school boy busted for bringing pot to class

Police say a third-grade student at a Yonkers elementary school was found with marijuana in his coat pocket Monday.

According to police, a teacher?s aide at Patricia DiChairo Elementary School witnessed the 9-year-old boy dropping a cigarette lighter. The aide then found marijuana in the boy?s coat pocket. The boy?s mother claims the lighter was hers, but says she did not know how the marijuana got in the coat.

School officials turned the boy over to his mother and suspended him for five days. Administrators say they followed procedure by calling the police then contacting child protective services.
