Westchester GOP nominates new candidates to replace familiar faces

Westchester Republicans nominated three new candidates Tuesday night to replace some familiar faces that won?t be on the ballot come Election Day.

For the first time in more than 10 years, the Republican ballot won?t include Jeanine Pirro for district attorney or County Clerk Leonard Spano. Three lesser known candidates will face an uphill battle as the Democrats outnumber the Republicans in Westchester by almost 2-to-1.

As expected, State Supreme Court Judge Janet Defiore received the nod for district attorney. The GOP nominee for county clerk was Linda Doherty, of Eastchester. Also, Mount Pleasant Legislator Rob Astorino will come up against incumbent Andy Spano for county executive.

While there is talk of primaries being a possibility for the Democrats, it is not likely the Republican nominees will have to face a primary.
