Governor Pataki talks to White Plains residents about road safety

Governor Pataki (R-NY) was in White Plains Thursday to discuss why drivers need to wear their seatbelts and be cautious on the roads.

The governor says there are a record number of 4,600 highway state police officers employed. According to the governor, these law enforcement officers are there to help ensure drivers safely reach their destinations this holiday weekend.

AAA says 31 million drivers will be traveling this weekend. With such a high number of commuters, police are guaranteed to be patrolling the roads in full force.

Last year, 22 million lives were lost due to excessive speed and drunk driving.
