Yonkers mother of fallen soldier ends bid to become American Gold Star member

A Yonkers woman who lost her son in Afghanistan dropped her fight Sunday to be recognized as an American Gold Star member.

Ligaya Lagman?s son, Anthony, died while fighting in Afghanistan last year. Lagman was denied membership to the national group because she is not a United States citizen. However, she officially ended her bid to become a Gold Star mother this Memorial Day weekend.

Meanwhile, some local politicians and veterans have been fighting to change the group?s bylaw. If the group wants to change the bylaws of the American Gold Star Mother constitution, its members must vote. The group says its members must also publish a notice of the proposal one month before its national convention.
