Rats run wild in Yonkers apartment building and neighborhood

Residents in a Yonkers neighborhood are fed up with the rats running around their apartment building and surrounding area.

Neighbors believe the garbage around the building at Hamilton Avenue is contributing to the infestation of rodents. Residents say they are worried about their children?s health with rats scurrying around the building.

After News 12 Westchester first reported the rat problem, the city of Yonkers sent a housing inspector to the premises and the landlord was issued a violation notice. The landlord sealed up exterior holes on the building, however, residents say that is not enough. They say the garbage needs to be cleaned from around the building and the sewer catch basins.

Yonkers Department of Public Works have cleaned out the catch basins Tuesday and put rat bait inside. Meanwhile, the city is putting pressure on the landlord to do his own form of pest control inside the building.
