Vandalized memorials bear the words ?War is failure? in northern Westchester

Between Sunday and Monday night vandals illegally expressed their opinion by defacing a memorial in Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park.

Parents and veterans are upset not only about the damage, but about the fact that vandals struck over the Memorial Day weekend. Cathy Marx, who's son Steven serves with the Army in Iraq, often brings her daughter and her kids to see the monument. Marx says she grew upset after witnessing the vandalism.

The words "War is failure" appear on a tank, the pavement, a nearby sign and the pole holding up a Cobra helicopter. A park ranger found the defacement in the morning when the park opened for ceremonies. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the vandalism to contact the Putnam County Sheriff at 845-225-4300.
