Ex-Tarrytown fire chief accused of using village credit card for shopping spree

A former Tarrytown fire chief is accused of using a village charge card to rack up more than $3,000 worth of items. Officials say Joseph McCarthy made personal purchases at the Sam?s Club in Elmsford. Police were tipped off two weeks ago by another firefighter and they immediately began an investigation along with the district attorney?s office. McCarthy has been charged with grand larceny in the third degree and has been released on his own recognizance. He is due back in village court on Wednesday for his arraignment.
