Suspect in fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Croton Falls girl faces extradition from CT

The suspect in the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old Croton Falls girl faces extradition from Connecticut Tuesday.

Police say Ariel Menendez, 27, of the Bronx, fled to a relative?s home in Connecticut after he killed Elizabeth Butler. Menendez is accused of strangling and stabbing Butler, his former girlfriend.

Butler?s parents found her body in her SUV in the parking lot of the deli where she worked Sunday. Butler was to graduate from North Salem High School in two weeks. Officials say Butler and Menendez had been dating for nine months but recently broke up.

Menendez has a previous criminal record. He will be facing a judge on second-degree murder charges. If convicted, Menendez faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
