Friends and family mourn the loss of North Salem teenager

Friends and family turned out in Brewster for the wake of a popular North Salem teenager.

According to police, 17-year-old Elizabeth Butler was strangled and stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend, 27-year-old Ariel Menendez. Authorities say Butler was found in her family?s Nissan Pathfinder in a Croton Falls parking lot where she worked at a local delicatessen. Her parents found her body after the deli called to say she had failed to show up for work.

Friends of Butler remember her as funny and outgoing. They say they are angry over her murder. Butler was set to graduate from North Salem High School in two weeks and attend SUNY Albany in the fall. Her funeral will be held at Saint James Church in Carmel on Thursday.
