Underage drinking party in Montrose turns violent

Authorities say an underage drinking party in Montrose turned violent, sending one to the hospital and four behind bars.

According to investigators, a group of teenage boys took a drunken 16-year-old to the grounds of Hendrick High School and beat him up. The four teens were arrested, as well as the mother whose daughter hosted the party. State police say although there was no evidence the mother served any alcohol, they say she was home at the time of the party.

Police say 18-year-old Kevin Powell of Verplank and 19-year-old of George James of Buchanan were charged with first-degree assault. Along with 18-year-olds Robert Johnson and Thomas Madueria-Matorara both of Buchanan were charged with unlawful imprisonment. The 55-year-old mother was given an appearance ticket and is scheduled to be in court on Monday.

The superintendent of Hendrick Hudson School System said the incident was captured on a school surveillance tape. New York State Police now have the tape for their investigation.
