Thousands walk to raise money for autism research in Purchase

Thousands of residents walked to raise money for autism research Sunday at Manhattanville College in Purchase.

Medical officials say autism is a brain disorder that affects a person?s ability to communicate or react to their surroundings. Many parents with autistic children say it is a day-to-day struggle to keep up with their children.

Organizers of the event say autism remains one of the lowest funded areas of medical research. They hope to raise more than $700,000 from the walk.
