New report released about leak at Indian Point plant in Buchanan

A new report by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) says a leak occurred over a 17-day period at the Indian Point plant number two in Buchanan.

Entergy reported to the NRC that the nitrogen leak did not pose a threat to plant workers or the public living nearby. However, residents say the nitrogen leak at Indian Point Number Two is just another incident in a long list of problems at the plant. Plant officials say not everything is required to be reported to federal regulators, unless it affects the public safety.

The NRC?s findings revealed a human error, not a mechanical malfunction. Entergy will now have to decide whether to challenge the finding or accept it. Last month federal regulators gave Indian Point a top grade for last year.
