Pedestrian struck and killed by drunk driver in Yonkers

Police say a drunk driver jumped a curb and hit a couple on the sidewalk in Yonkers Monday night, killing one of them.

According to authorities, 47-year-old Emanuel Joseph and his 37-year-old wife, Carlene, were walking on the sidewalk on Kimball Avenue just a block from their home. Police say Christopher Kiernan, 25, came barreling down the street, jumped a curb and took out a fire hydrant. Investigators say Kiernan then struck the couple before crashing into a nearby yard.

Firefighters from a station across the street rushed to Carlene Joseph?s aid and tried to resuscitate her but couldn?t. Emanuel Joseph also tried to help his injured wife.

Police have charged Kiernan with DWI and vehicular manslaughter.
