Prosecution fears driver accused of killing Yonkers pedestrian may run
A 26-year-old Yonkers man is being held on $500,000 bail Thursday after police say he killed a pedestrian while driving drunk.
Authorities say Christopher Kiernan, 26, was drunk when he ran over a couple walking on the sidewalk in Yonkers Monday. According to police, 37-year-old Carlene Joseph died as a result of the incident. The prosecution is worried that Kiernan poses a flight risk since he is an illegal immigrant from Ireland. The district attorney?s office also says Kiernan was driving an SUV registered to a construction company that doesn?t exist.
Prosecutors claim Kiernan resisted arrest and had a blood alcohol level of .23. If convicted, Kiernan could get up to seven years in jail.
