Many residents saddened over Yonkers landmark temporarily closing

Many Yonkers residents said they were sad to see the Yonkers Raceway close Saturday for renovations.

Horse owner Peter Lucia says he is sad to see the track close, but adds that the changes are badly needed. The raceway will reopen at the end of the year, after renovations and the addition of video lottery terminals. The $185 million expansion follows years of legal battles over the issue of being allowed to add the terminals.

There is no set date for completion of the project. However, management says they hope changes will be done by November.
