Fire heavily damages home in Croton-on-Hudson

An early morning fire heavily damaged a home in Croton-on-Hudson Friday.

Fire officials say no one was home at the Sunset Drive residence at the time of the blaze. The Croton Fire Department was quickly joined by units from Ossining and Yorktown Heights to battle the flames. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze on the first floor but had a more difficult time battling the fire in the attic. Fire officials say the heat complicated efforts to get the flames under control.

Officials believe the fire started in the rear of the house. Three animals and a snake perished in the blaze. The cause of the fire in under investigation.
